3 Things I Learned Selling on Amazon Last Month

I’ve been selling on Amazon for over two years now and there are still things that I’m learning. So, I figured why not share these little tidbits with the world! Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something new OR feel less alone.

In today’s blog post, I’ll be sharing three things I learned while selling on Amazon in May 2023.

  • Orange Bars don’t mean everything

  • I love FBM

  • Don’t be afraid to take time for yourself

  1. Orange bars don’t mean everything!

If you follow any Amazon Sellers on social media, then you’re used to seeing the “end of the month” orange bars. Sometimes this is inspiring, but it can also lead to an endless game of comparison.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t guilty of this! I feel like I was in a bit of a sourcing slump during the beginning of the year, and it was so frustrating to see all of the giant orange bars. But in reality, you can’t see the full picture and probably never will.

So, this is just a reminder that orange bars don’t mean everything! I already knew this, but May was just a reminder.

Was May a record sales month? NO. Were my orange bars anything to brag about? NO. But was it a record profit month (outside of Q4)? YES.

To be honest, my total sales were higher in January but, because I liquidated old inventory, my profit was half of what I made last month.

At the end of the day, you should always focus on profit NOT sales.

2. I love FBM!

I used to only focus on FBM during Q4, mainly because I have a love-hate relationship with it. I love the quick sales and extra opportunities, but I kind of hate dealing with the customers. Last month, I found a few hot items and now I have nothing but love for FBM! ❤️😂

To put it into perspective, here are some of my numbers from last month:

  • 264 out of 665 units sold were FBM (40%)

  • I made approximately $2,596 PROFIT from my FBM sales

  • Average ROI was 121%

As you can see, FBM opens up so many more selling opportunities. I cannot recommend it enough!

3. Don’t be afraid to take time for yourself

I have a very type-A personality. When I start, I go hard because I don’t want to fail. But this inevitably leads to burnout, which is what happened to me last month.

Being a small business owner is hard. Selling on Amazon is hard. Keeping up with social media, YouTube, and a blog is hard. Don’t be afraid to take time for yourself!

I absolutely love what I do and, honestly, can’t imagine doing anything else at this point. So, my goal for this next month is to dial in my routine and create a better “work-life” balance. Consistency is key with Amazon, but it all means nothing if you don’t prioritize your health.

Moral of the story?

It’s okay to step away from the business to enjoy life and relax.

Conclusion

So those are the three things I learned while selling on Amazon last month! Thanks so much for reading to the end of this blog. I hope you learned something new AND crushed your May goals!
