How to Prep & Ship your FBM Orders
FBM can open up sooo many selling opportunities, but it can also be a bit intimidating!
When selling merchant-fulfilled items, you’re responsible for everything! Packaging your order, buying your shipping label, shipping the item to your customer, dealing with customer service issues, and the list goes on.
I would say the biggest risk or, one of the main reasons sellers avoid FBM, is because they are worried that they will miscalculate their shipping costs. They’ve likely either had personal experience with this or they’ve heard horror stories from other sellers. But it doesn’t have to be as complicated as it sounds!
As a general rule of thumb, anything that weighs less than 1 pound will cost you $3-6 to ship, depending on where it’s going. Shipping costs for items weighing more than 1 pound will vary depending on dimensions, weight, and the ship to location.
Pirate Ship offers a free shipping calculator on their website! You can enter your ship to and ship from zip codes, along with the package dimensions and weight to get a rough estimate on how much shipping will cost you. When you’re first starting to sell on Amazon, or eBay for that matter, this is a great tool to use! It’s completely free and just gives you the reassurance that you will make money on the order!
You can access the free shipping calculator here.
I also highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with USPS and UPS so you can get an idea of how much shipping will cost you moving forward!
